An American tourist was brutally beaten to death outside a bar in Lagana on the Greek island of Zakynthos early on Friday.

The victim identified by his family as Bakari Henderson, 22, from Texas, was in Greece for a photo shoot as part of the launch of his new clothing line.

“Bakari loved spending time with family and friends, travelling and meeting new people,” read a statement from Henderson’s family.

“He was a big thinker and enjoyed coming up with new business ventures.”

According to Greek police, on Friday a 34-year-old Greek and a 32-year-old British man of Serbian origin, both of whom are said to be employees of the bar, were arrested.

Meanwhile video surveillance obtained from shops nearby the crime scene show the suspects beating the victim well after he was unconscious, reports ANA-MPA.

Six other Serbian men were identified from the footage and arrested as part of the investigation, the Serbian Foreign Ministry reporting on Saturday that they would be appearing before a judge.

Autopsy results are still pending and officials have yet to release a statement about the possible motive for the attack.

Friends of the victim have since set up a GoFundMe campaign, which has raised over US$31,000 (AUD$40,715) to bring his body back to the United States and cover the funeral costs.
