The AEU’s federal president, Angelo Gavrielatos – a tireless campaigner for public education – has announced his resignation after seven years as leader.
Mr Gavrielatos cites the Gonski campaign as one of the AEU’s greatest achievements, saying, “the debate on schools funding has been forever changed”.
In the next chapter, Mr Gavrielatos is set to coordinate Education International’s Global Response to Education Corporations, aimed at halting and reversing the commercialisation and privatisation of education.
