Sydney FC midfielder Terry Antonis has signed a two-year contract extension with the A-League club.

The deal will keep the promising 20-year-old with the Sky Blues until the end of 2017.

“There was never any hesitation when the offer came through and I’m confident I can achieve my goal of winning trophies (at Sydney),” Antonis said in a club statement.

Antonis has made more than 50 appearances for the team since debuting during the 2011 season.

More recently, the striker found himself at the centre of off-field drama between Sky Blues management and Football Federation Australia.

Antonis had been called up for the Socceroos’ squad for the friendly against Japan but was ruled out after being involved in a car accident en route to the airport.

His subsequent ineligibility for an A-League match with Melbourne Victory on grounds of FFA’s injury policies sparked a stand-off between the sporting body and Sydney staff.
