One of Azerbaijan’s top footballers has been arrested in relation to the death of Azerbaijani journalist Rasim Aliyev.
It was reported that Aliyev had criticised Javid Huseynov for his on-field behaviour via a Facebook post where he wrote the footballer was “ignorant and unable to behave himself”.
Huseynov’s scored the winning goal for his side FC Gabala when it took on Cypriot outfit Apollon Limassol and celebrated by waving a Turkish flag.
Following the criticism it was reported by Azerbaijani media that Aliyev had been attacked after meeting a man who posed as a Huseynov’s cousin – he later died in hospital.
Huseynov is one of six people arrested in connection to the death.
