Christos Tsiolkas’ Barracuda is coming to the small screen, as it appears among the new shows announced for the ABC 2016 program.
The drama tells the story of a Melbourne teenager, struggling against his underprivileged background to fulfil his dream of becoming an Olympic swimming champion, while coming to terms with his homosexuality.
Tsiolkas’ book was hailed as a brilliant and brutal “unflinching look at modern Australia” and its obsession with competitive sports and the show promises to be nothing less.
Elias Anton stars, surrounded by a cast that includes Rachel Griffiths and Victoria Haralabidou.
The series is currently in production and shooting is underway in Melbourne.
