It might be a good thing that Bentleigh Greens coach John Anastasiadis hasn’t had a lot of time to dwell on lost chances.

The club’s mid-week fixture against Werribee City might have snatched their winning streak away, but the 1-1 draw was respectable for such early days in the season.

Anastasiadis is working hard to get his boys up to the huge task, coming up against an in form Heidelberg United on Sunday.

He says the Wednesday 1-1 draw was a case of not making the most of chances.

“We had so many chances but unfortunately we didn’t score,” Anastasiadis laments.

“When you don’t score you’re going to get punished.”

Heidelberg didn’t have the same problem when they came up against Werribee last week. The team walked away with a 1-0 clean sheet, bagging another win for the season start.

Coach George Katsakis is quietly confident he’ll be able to continue the winning streak as they welcome Bentleigh.

“The good thing is we’re coming off two wins, our confidence is high, we’ve got a bit of momentum,” he tells Neos Kosmos.

He will need to work on filling Kane Sheppard and Kenny Mathews positions after the two are out of selection thanks to an ankle and a hamstring injury respectively.

“Its going to make things a little bit difficult with re-arranging,” Katsakis admits.

Anastasiadis is in the same boat, having to decide who to rest and who to play again.

Entering their fourth match in three weeks, Anastasiadis confesses he is still working on finding a core team he’s happy with.

“It’s taken a bit of time, we do have some new boys in the squad that need more time, we’re getting there and we’re getting better every week,” he says.

Both Anastasiadis and Katsakis at least aren’t taking the Greek derby lightly.

Both see their opponents as potential championship winners and know a win early on might prove very useful later down the track.

“The likes of South Melbourne, Oakleigh (Cannons) and Bentleigh, I think they will definitely be up amongst the leaders,” Katsakis says.

“We’ve set that as our target, knowing that they’ll be there for the challenge.”

Anastasiadis is expecting to see a couple of teams put their efforts in performing well in other competitions to mirror the Green’s fairytale FFA Cup run.

“A lot of people will be concentrating on other things like the FFA Cup, so they may take the eye off the ball,” he says.

Heidelberg Untied will take on Bentleigh Greens on Sunday 8 March at 4pm at Olympic Village, Catalina Street, Heidelberg West.
