There was no better match to show how deserving the Hawthorn Spartans are of their ladder position than their game against Masala last week.
The Spartans managed to finish with their biggest win yet, with 219 points to their name and Masala left licking their wounds after only managing to get six goals past the Spartan defence.
It is the 14th straight win for the Hawthorn team, who have never been beaten this season and are one win away from having a perfect season.
One of the secrets to the Spartans’ success has to be the weekly team effort the club shows on the field. In some cases, more than six players set up a goal, showing that the glory doesn’t just go to the goal scorer, but the entire team.
Their Masala game had nine different goalkickers, keeping their opponents scratching their heads with who to focus on.
It was the second consecutive week that the team had only 12 turnovers and were able to capitalise on rusty defence to get ahead early on.
This Saturday will be the Spartan’s last league game before finals start up. It will be a blockbuster first versus second send off, with the Spartans travelling to face the Old Xaverians at 11.40 am at Sportscover Arena, Glenhuntly Road, Elsternwick.
The two teams will be playing each other again the following week on Sunday 10 August in the second semi- final at the same venue at 2.00 pm.
The club is calling for all their supporters to come down and help the boys claim the premiership once again.
