Melbourne City goalkeeper Dean Bouzanis has signed a three year contract extension that will keep him at AAMI Park until the end of the A-League 2018-19 season.

The 26-year-old, Sydney-born keeper joined Melbourne City from Western Sydney Wanderers at the start of last year in a bid to get more game time. Since deputising for City custodian Thomas Sorensen in the season opener away to Wellington after Sorensen was sent off, Bouzanis has not looked back, consistently appearing in City’s starting line-up this season, and playing in all 15 matches.

He also impressed with a confident display in Melbourne City’s FFA Cup final win against Sydney FC late last year, in a game in which he displayed his good passing range.

With Sorensen’s contract set to expire at the end of the current season, City have moved to secure Bouzanis’s service for the next couple of seasons.

Bouzanis commented on his decision to sign the three year contract extension by saying, “It’s an honour to re-sign for Melbourne City for the next three years.

This season I feel I have progressed as a player in a fantastic environment, working with experienced coaching staff – previously with John van’t Schip, and now with Michael Valkanis and Joe Montemurro – who have helped me to become a more rounded player.”
