The Australian recently reported that a deal had been struck by then free-agent Tyson Goldsack and the Port Adelaide football club, in the vicinity of $1.2 million over three years.

But all speculation of a move was thrown out the window, with the 27-year-old remaining with the Magpies until the end of the 2017 season – for an undisclosed amount.

The utility said he is happy with his decision to remain at the Westpac Centre.

“Basically, I wanted to stay. That’s what it came down to,” Goldsack said.

“I’ve been here for eight years now and I don’t think there is a better place to play football and get the best out of yourself than Collingwood.”

Goldsack has played 124 games in eight seasons with the club, including 20 this season.

In other Collingwood news, Goldsack’s former teammate Luke Ball, who retired at season’s end, said that a proposed move by disgruntled Magpie Heritier Lumumba may be a good move for both club and player.

The pacey defender is assessing his options after reportedly falling out with the club and coach Nathan Buckley over a comment he regarded as homophobic on a club poster.

“I know he’s gone away to try and refresh a bit and take his mind of it, and hopefully that will allow him to come back and make a clear decision,” Ball said.

“I’m sure he’ll sit down with the club and do that.

“But I’d certainly see it as an option for him. I know he sees himself as a Collingwood person, he’s very passionate about the club, but we’ve seen in recent times that while it might be nice to be a one-club player, sometimes a fresh start and a change of scenery can help everyone.”
