As we experience a generational transition, what is the future of multiculturalism in Victoria?
This will be the question being addressed next month by the Ethnic Communities Council of Victoria (ECCV) and Ballarat Regional Multicultural Council in a statewide conference on ‘The Next Generation of Multicultural Victoria – Intergenerational Perspectives’.
Held in the historic town of Ballarat on Friday 11 November, this year’s event will lead a public discussion on the changing face of multiculturalism in Victoria with regards to generational transition.
The ECCV’s aim is to come together with individuals and organisations to commit to making practical and achievable changes over the next three years and beyond.
To give greater substance to the discussion, speakers from different generations will participate, talking about their vision for the future and will include chair of the Victorian Multicultural Commission Helen Kapalos.
Hosting the conference will be award-winning performer and Bully Zero Australia ambassador, James Liotta and will feature a host of entertainment and inspirational speakers throughout the day.
Amongst those taking part will be Minister for Multicultural Affairs, Robin Scott; Peter van Vliet from the Department of Immigration and Border Protection; Greens MP Colleen Hartland; Liberal MP Joshua Morris; South Sudan Australia Peace Initiative’s Nyok Gor; Cultural Infusion’s Peter Mousaferiadis; and Zakia Baig Hazara from the Women’s Friendship Network, among others.
A pre-conference dinner will take place on Thursday 10 November at Housey Housey @ The Forge, 12 Armstrong St, North Ballarat Central, VIC from 7am – 10pm. The conference will follow on Friday 11 November at the Mercure Convention Centre, 613 Main Rd, Ballarat, VIC from 9am – 5pm.
