Greece’s terms for a solution to an ongoing name dispute with the neighbouring Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM) “have been shaped in such a way to be unacceptable to us,” the Balkan country’s Prime Minister, Nikola Gruevski, told the Skopje-based Republika newspaper.
“Greece’s official position is that it wants to find a solution to the name dispute, but there are certain conditions which it knows will not pass,” Mr Gruevski said.
“Greece’s unofficial position… is essentially that Greece is no place to solve this issue. It has too many domestic, political and economic problems.”
FYROM’s Prime Minister went on to suggest that the international community is also reluctant to put pressure on Greece to reach a compromise as its focus is on getting the country to fulfil its financial commitments.
