Popular Greek singer Maria Farantouri has eclipsed many singers and celebrates 50 years in the business. Her illustrious and long career has brought her to countless countries including a quick tour in Australia last year.
She has recorded songs in Italian, Spanish and English, and collaborated with well known Greek composers like Mikis Theodorakis and composed the score for Pablo Neruda’s Canto General. As much as she is known for her amazing deep and lyrical voice, Farantouri took on the role of activist and became politically active, joining the Greek parliament in 1983 to 1993 for the Greek socialist party PASOK.
As part of the 50 year career anniversary, Farantouri will give a big concert at the Herod Atticus Theatre on September 17 in Athens. Elli Paspala and Savvina Yannatou will appear with her on stage.
