In recognition of the Greek community’s contribution to Sunraysia, the festival of olives will be held at the end of this month in Mildura.

Greek currant growers have made significant contributions to the area, introducing methods of cultivation, picking and drying the fruit that had not previously been understood in Australia.

The festival invites people to come and celebrate the planting of the olive trees circa 1890s. It will take place on Saturday May 28 at the Old Mildura Homestead from 11am to 3pm. There will be Greek food, oil and olive tastings, demonstrations, music and dance and also a mini Olympics for all ages.

Patrons are asked to make a gold coin donation upon entry and will be in the running to win a gate prize. The festival is supported by the Elderly Greek Citizens Club of Mildura, Sunraysia Mallee Ethnic Communities Council, Mildura Rural City Council, Victorian Multicultural Commission and Mildura Development Corporation.
