The Hawthorn Spartans are looking to cap another season undefeated, as they go into their tenth match with nine wins to their name.

Last week, they beat Mt Lilydale by 149 points, one of their better wins of the season.

The Spartans dominated from the start and their defence made things very tough for the Lilydale boys. Mt Lilydale preferred to attack out wide on one side of the ground and get aggressive, but it wasn’t anything the club couldn’t handle. Lilydale couldn’t get past the Spartan defence for the whole match, only scoring five goals, finishing with a pretty poor 36 points. The Spartans are proving to be impenetrable on their home turf, and with the added crowd from their sponsor souvlaki day, the boys came to a clean and easy win.

They have another home match today, this time taking on second on the ladder, Old Xaverians. The blockbuster fixture will be the Spartans’ biggest challenge, with the Xaverians almost matching their undefeated run with 8 wins and 1 loss to their name.

The match will start at 9.20 am on Saturday, at Rathmines Road Reserve, Hawthorn.
