By the fall of this year, the majority of public transport services in the Athenian capital will offer free wi-fi for passengers, the Ministry of Digital Policy, Telecommunication and Information announced earlier this week.

The project is expected to cost 900,000 euros and foresees the installation of devices on 2,030 vehicles and will be made possible in collaboration with the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport as well as the Region of Attica authorities.

According to the announcement, urban buses, trolleys and the tram in the greater Athens area will be equipped with free wi-fi. Most main metro stations already have free internet. The Greek Ministries aspire that this measure will offer even more tourists to visit Athens throughout the year.

Also, based on recent OASA figures passengers on buses and trolleys carried out approximately 352,116,000 rides, with an average duration of rides 20 minutes while rides on the tram totalled 14,482,000 per year.
