As the nominations for the 66th Primetime Emmy Awards were released earlier this week, topping the list of popularity was Zach Galifianakis’ interview with American president Barack Obama.

Galifianakis’ highly popular Between Two Ferns interview earned him an Emmy Award Nomination on Thursday in the Outstanding Short-Format Live-Action Entertainment Program category.

Although critics contend the episode nominated for the Emmy Awards is not the best one this year, the video currently has 22 million views, making it the most-watched Between Two Ferns clip on the ‘Funny or Die’ video platform.

Episode 18, with President Obama, was posted on March 11 and ran for six-and-a-half minutes.

Zach Galifianakis’ show garnered a nomination for the executive producers of the segment – Scott Aukerman, Zach Galifianakis himself, BJ Porter and Mike Farah.

They will be competing against shows from NBC.com, E! and the Super Bowl Halftime Show starring Bruno Mars that aired on Fox.

Before Obama, guests from all walks of entertainment life graced Galifianakis’ set – from popular musicians like Justin Bieber and actors Bruce Willis,
Charlize Theron and Bradley Cooper, to pundits such as Jon Stewart and Conan O’Brien.
Galifianakis, who described himself to Obama as “short, fat, and smelling like Doritos”, gained notoriety in 2009 when he appeared in The Hangover with
Bradley Cooper.

Apart from Zach Galifianakis, among the celebrities of Greek descent nominated for Emmy Awards this year are Chris Diamantopoulos for Outstanding Character Voice-Over Performance as Mickey Mouse, Tina Fey for Outstanding Guest Actress In A Comedy Series for Saturday Night Live and Betty White for Outstanding Host For A Reality Or Reality-Competition Program for Betty White’s Off Their Rockers.

The Emmy Awards will be announced on 25 August.
