Grants to preserve heritage
New grants will be made available to preserve Victorian heritage buildings and objects
Places listed in the Victorian Heritage Register or included in a Heritage Overlay will be open to financial assistance though the Victorian Government's Heritage Grants that are open for 2011-12. The grants will provide financial assistance to custodians of heritage place and objects. As most of the state's heritage is managed by volunteers and not-for-profit groups, the grants will provide much needed support.
Minister for Planning, the Hon Matthew Guy said he looks "forward to seeing various heritage places and objects throughout Victoria using this important funding to ensure (the) past is appreciated and protected".
Over ten Greek Orthodox churches are in the register, alongside Jim Greek's Tavern in Collingwood.
