Greek French composer Alexandre Desplat took home an Oscar last week, after eight nominations without a win.

The composer won the Oscar for his work on the Wes Anderson film The Grand Budapest Hotel, one of two movie projects he was nominated for.

During his speech, he thanks his Greek mother, the people of Greece and the people of France.

Desplat was also nominated for his work in The Imitation Game, capping a very successful award season run.

Makeup artist Elizabeth Yianni-Georgiou was also nominated for her work on the Hollywood blockbuster Guardians of the Galaxy, but lost out to Frances Hannon and Mark Coulier from The Grand Budapest Hotel.

Fellow Greeks to grace the red carpet were Jennifer Aniston and Maria Menounos.

Best picture went to Birdman, while Julianne Moore and Eddie Redmayne received the best actress and actor gongs on the night.
