Eleftherios (Lefteris) Petrounias showed off his superior power in the strongman event as he edged out local favourite and 2012 champion Arthur Zanetti to win Greece the rings gold medal with a whopping 16.000 score.

Zanetti lost out on the top prize by just 0.234 of a point while Russia’s Denis Abliazin had to settle for bronze.

Petrounias’ body remained perfectly lined up horizontally before flowing into a number of handstands, nailing the dismount.

The athlete saluted the crowd with a raised fist as his impressive score was being announced, becoming the first Greek since Dimosthenis Tampakos in 2004 to win the rings.

This is Greece’s second gold in Rio after Anna Korakaki came first in women’s shooting.
