Australia’s largest multicultural event will be celebrating its 15th anniversary, with registrations now open for this year’s events.

Set to be held on Saturday 21 March, Harmony Day is an opportunity for schools, universities, workplaces and communities to celebrate the nation’s cultural diversity, while also giving recognition to community groups and individuals who have promoted community harmony.

“Harmony Day is about inclusiveness, respect and a sense of belonging for everyone,” said Senator Concetta Fierravanti-Wells, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Social Services.

“Australia is the world’s most successful immigration nation. This year’s events will celebrate and recognise those who passionately believe that everyone belongs in our community,” she said.

Initiated by the Howard Coalition government, the event has gone from strength to strength, with last year’s Harmony Day receiving a record 6,600 registrations – more than any other year.

“As we look to the future, our challenge is to keep it that way. Diversity, tolerance and mutual respect and the welcome we extend to people of all faiths and minorities will be as much a part of our future as a feature of our past,” said the senator.
