Mihalis Hatzigiannis has given a small group of die hard Greek Australian fans the chance to see him up close for an intimate concert, the first of its kind in the new Greek Centre of Contemporary Culture.

On Thursday night, just two days before his major concert at the Sydney Myer Music Bowl, the Greek Orthodox Community of Melbourne and Victoria (GOCMV) was able to book the signer for a small fundraising concert for the new centre.

With each ticket going for $300, about 110 fans and members of the Greek Australian community flocked to see the singer.

In a more approachable and energetic set, Hatzigiannis started with music from his newest albums, Mesa Sou Vriskome and Kati Dinato. Backed by a phenomenal orchestra travelling with him from Greece, he encouraged the whole audience to get up from their seats and dance along with the music.

Young and old got as close to the stage as possible, creating a tavern atmosphere in the new centre.

Opened just weeks before, it was the first time the GOCMV held a special event in their new building, and with a headliner like Mihalis Hatzigiannis, it was christened with style.

The Greek star is now booked to perform a huge concert alongside the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra on Saturday at 6pm.
