The Hawthorn Spartans are now in full training for the season head commencing in April. The team has this year been promoted to Division 1. With the promotion the Club is required to strengthen its playing list. Currently the Spartans have 35 players in training but have room for more, so the team would like to hear from players with a background in footy wishing to train once a week and play in a well organised and structured Spartans team.

Training is normally held on Wednesday evenings at St James Park, Burwood Road, Hawthorn, starting at 6.15pm as the club prepares for its three pre-season practice matches starting this weekend against the Southern Dragons.

M2K along with Delphi Bank are once again the team’s major sponsors, while Neos Kosmos remains the major media partner. The Hawthorn Spartans will gear up to promote their football club at the Antipodes Festival on Saturday March 16 where showbags will be handed out and team caps go on sale, while on Sunday March 17, former Carlton great Anthony Koutoufides will be on board in person at the Spartans stall signing autographs and caps between midday and 2pm.

Later in the year the Spartan’s major function will be held on Saturday May 18 at San Remo Ballroom, Carlton, where sponsors, supporters, families. friends, players and officials, are invited to attend by making a booking early for the team’s biggest fundraiser of the year.

As always the Hawthorn Spartans welcome interest in all aspects of their operations from the playing group to volunteers, fundraising and sponsorship enquiries, just contact the club’s president George Demetriou for a chat on 0409 022 909.
