Heart attack software developed
Greek Australians with heart conditions should have one less reason to panic this week, with the announcement that the National Heart Foundation of Australia has developed life-saving new diagnostic software.
The National Heart Foundation of Australia has trialed a prototype of the Acute Coronary Syndromes Electronic Decision Support Instrument (ACSEDI), designed to help health professionals diagnose, risk assess and manage patients suffering from heart attack and unstable angina.
Professor James Tatoulis, Chief Medical Adviser for the Heart Foundation, said having medical information such as blood test and heart trace results readily available when people present with signs of heart attack could save lives.
“In addition, this information needs to be aligned with evidence-based clinical guideline recommendations to ensure good decisions are made in a time critical manner which is what this prototype aims to achieve,” he said.
After it is put through more rigorous trials, the software will be rolled out in GPs and hospitals.
