Last month Member of Ivanhoe Anthony Carbines and Craig Langdon, Mayor of Banyule proudly announced that Heidelberg United Football Club would be receiving a grant of $100,000 from the Andrew Government’s Community Sports Infrastructure Fund and a further contribution of $100,000 from the City of Banyule for the construction of female friendly change rooms.

“Victoria is the sporting state, and we want it to stay that way. It means happy and healthy Victorians, and a stronger state,” said Minister for Sport, John Eren.

During the event held at Olympic Village on Tuesday 19 April, Mr Carbines also thanked Jenny Mikakos, Minister for Families and Children and Youth Affairs, who has been a key supporter of women’s sport and of Heidelberg United’s desire to lift female participation.

The Female Friendly Facilities at Olympic Park project is significant as the club is the only recipient of a Women’s National Premier League (WNPL) licence within the City of Banyule.

The mayor, who is also the councillor for the Olympia Ward in which Olympic Park resides, has been a strong supporter of Heidelberg United FC and his tireless efforts towards the club and local community were recognised by president of the club, Steve Tsalikidis.

“The club has been working diligently with all the parties involved for a long period of time to achieve this great outcome for all stakeholders,” said Mr Tsalikidis.

“It is now up to the Heidelberg United FC community to raise the remaining $140,000 required to complete the $340,000 project.”

Heidelberg United FC would also like to acknowledge the support and hard work of the staff of the City of Banyule to date.
