In a bid to help those who are affected by the economic and humanitarian crisis in Greece, members of the Greek and wider Australian community are being called upon to help.

In Victoria, AHEPA Youth are getting behind the initiative of Hellenic Heart, in the collection and donation of clothes and school items for disadvantaged children and adults in Greece.

“We know that there are a lot of people who are poor at the moment in Athens and other cities in Greece. So there are people who are going to be cold in the winter, there’s going to be a lot of hunger.

“We think this is a really good way to reach out to them and offer some support now that they need it the most,” Marialena Michanetzi, vice president of AHEPA Youth told Neos Kosmos.

Used and new clothing of all types and sizes are being accepted, as long as they are in good condition, clean and neatly folded. The items will then be shipped to Greece, where they will be passed on to recognised charities such as the Salvation Army (Greece) and Smile of the Child and distributed to those in need.

Everyone is invited to take part and show their generosity on Saturday 15 August from 10.00 am to 1.00 pm at AHEPA House, 8A Church Street, Hawthorn.
