The Australian Hellenic Memorial will commemorate ten years of the building of the memorial on the 25 September. And to celebrate, all the names of the Australian soldiers who lost their lives in Greece, will be read out on the day. The 840 soldiers will be honoured during a service held at the memorial in the beautiful Domain Gardens in Melbourne.

The Australian Hellenic Memorial symbolises the respect and love of Greek Australians towards the children of Australia who remain forever under Greek soil. The memorial was built to remember the faith and dedication of Greeks and Australians to the ideals of democracy and freedom. It also symbolises further bonds of blood and friendship developed on the battle fields, aiming to teach future generations the importance of cooperation and mutual respect between the two countries - Australia and Greece.

The Australian Hellenic Memorial has been built with the support of the Australian, Hellenic and Victorian Governments.

I congratulate the organisers, past and current president and board members for their contributions and well planned activities. May they continue to develop and support the Australian Hellenic friendships and bonds that have traditionally banded both countries. May this monument stand for all time in the memory of those Australians and Greeks who fought for the freedoms that we take for granted this day. I hope that more Australians of Hellenic heritage take the opportunity to take a more lively interest in the memorial and support those who are dedicated to maintaining its Australian presence for future generations. I salute you and your passionate in promoting the ideals of both countries in time of peace and in war. Abalinx Peter Adamis Watsonia
