The 15th edition of the Huffington Post news empire has launched in Australia in partnership with Fairfax.

Greek American author Arianna Huffington told the ABC’s Lateline that she looks forward to contributing original reporting to the local conversation.

“Whether it’s on the way we live our lives and the changes that technology has brought to that, or gay marriage, which I know is a hard topic in Australia at the moment, or all the latest political issues or all the latest recipes,” she said.

“HuffPost Australia will also be a rich addition to HuffPost’s What’s Working editorial initiative as we highlight people who are bringing fresh solutions to the country’s biggest problems.”

“We can’t wait to open up the conversation around everything Australia can teach the rest of the world about the solutions, innovations and acts of compassion that all too often are left out of the media’s narrative,” she concluded.

Mrs Huffington said she aims to touch upon the critical issues that Australians face, and to tell stories that focus on helping Australians live more fulfilling lives, while opening up their blogging platform to voices from all across the country.

HuffPost Australia has outlined a goal to be profitable within three years, but it also sparked controversy over its practice not to pay those who write for its blog.
