Google and Samsung have announced the new Galaxy Nexus mobile handset will begin shipping from next month, and will include Google’s new Android Operating system 4.0, code-named “Ice Cream Sandwich.”

The product will feature a 4.65 inch high definition Super AMOLED display, 1.2 gigahertz dual core processor, built in NFC (or “near-field communication technology” for all you bean counters and pen pushers), 8.94 millimetres thickness, and newly redesigned user interface to better cater for multitasking capabilities. What’s more, the handset will effectively be 4G-ready, and will work on the next generation LTE networks.

The handset also introduces innovative new features such as “face unlock” technology, which uses the camera and facial recognition technology to unlock the handset. Another cool feature is a quick-share capability, which allows for users to share content including videos and images simply by tapping two Nexus handsets together. The NFC technology takes care of the rest.

The Galaxy Nexus will begin shipping in Europe, USA, and Asia from next month. No news of an Australian launch date is available yet..
