Jimmy Grants has added moussaka to their menu for a limited time only and to celebrate they are holding a moussaka eating competition at their Richmond store on Saturday 5 August at 1.30pm.

Two Jimmy Grants’ customers nominated themselves to compete against Australia’s number 2 professional eater, Cal Stubbs of Hulk Smash Food, in this epic man vs. moussaka challenge. The winner will be awarded with free Jimmy Grants for a year, a fancy trophy, some branded Jimmy’s merch and pretty impressive bragging rights.

The moussaka is a delicious Greek dish that inspired the popular Italian lasagna. With layers of lamb shoulder, miso eggplant, béchamel sauce, potato and kefalograviera cheese, it’s the perfect dish to warm you up on a chilly winter’s day.

“Moussaka is the most eaten Greek dish in the world! Historically the dish was originally called imam bayıldı,” says George Calombaris.

“An incredible Greek chef called Tselementes went to work with renown French chef Escoffier and learnt how to make béchamel sauce. Tselementes took the béchamel back to Greece, added it to the imam bayıldı and the moussaka was created.

“Jimmy Grants moussaka takes the traditional dish and adds modern flavours and techniques to make it super delicious!,” the famous Greek chef adds.

To compliment the deliciously cheesy moussaka, Jimmy Grant’s have brought back the crowd-favourite iceberg lettuce salad, drizzled with a lemon dressing and sprinkled with oregano plus pita bread for $19.90.

The moussaka is also available solo for $16.90 in-store and also via UberEATS and Deliveroo, for a limited time only.
