Nick Kyrgios has pulled out of next week’s Paris Masters, after losing to 170th ranked German Daniel Brands in his round one match at the Valencia Open earlier this week.

Despite racing out to a 4-1 lead in the first set, the Australian lost the match 4-6 6-2 6-7.

He tweeted ‘Another year in the books. #SeasonOver #Thanks’ signalling the end to a controversial 2015 tour.

Kyrgios’s mentor Lleyton Hewitt was this week appointed Australia’s Davis Cup captain, taking over from Wally Masur, who was in a caretakers role.

Hewitt has backed the 20-year-old to bounce back and learn from his recent mistakes.

“When I came on, I didn’t always have the best image out there either,” he said.

“Nick, I think, is really finding himself at the moment but he has massive up side and I think with the right people around him he can really improve leaps and bounds in the next year or two and hopefully hold up a grand slam trophy.”

The 2016 tour gets underway in Australia in early January.
