Considered the ‘yellow pages’ of language education services, bilingual parent Ms Karen Nejad has created Australia’s first comprehensive online language education directory.

Languages Australia was started a year ago, in response to the difficulties Ms Nejad and other parents were encountering when trying to source information regarding bilingual education services.

Catering to parents with children aged 0-18 years, the site includes information on bilingual playgroup and story time options, childcare centres that teach a second language, language-based activities and classes, government schools and their language programs, in addition to after school government language classes and Saturday schools.

With nearly one in five Australians recorded as speaking a second language, and language education ranking high on the government agenda, the self-funded website is an invaluable source of information.

The Bilingual Shop is a recent addition to the website, currently stocking hand-drawn bilingual flash cards available in 10 languages, including Greek, Arabic, French and Hindi.
