Winner of this year’s Cannes Jury Prize, Yorgos Lanthimos’ new movie The Lobster will be screened at the 2015 Melbourne International Film Festival (MIFF).

MIFF has already revealed to Melburnians a line-up of 26 outstanding Cannes picks.

Greek New Wave director Yorgos Lanthimos is particularly known for his multi-awarded movie Dogtooth, which was released in 2009.

The film received highly positive ratings from critics, from Greek festivals as well as the international cinema world.

In fact, it was chosen unanimously by the Greek Film Committee to represent Greece at the Oscars.

The Lobster comes as his long-anticipated English-language debut, which was also nominated for the Palm D’Or and finally won the Jury prize.

The plot revolves around the life in the near-dystopian future, where individual citizens are given 45 days in a hotel to find a mate.

Those failing are transformed into animals and sent off in the woods as outcasts.

The cast includes famous US actor Colin Farrell and former model Rachel Weisz among others.

The MIFF opening night will take place on July 30.
