As Perth is bracing up for the biannual elections for the City Council, Acting Lord Mayor James Limnios made a pledge to fight for half hour or one-hour parking in the high streets of the CBD if re-elected.

James Limnios took on the role of Acting Lord Mayor last week, following Lord Mayor Lisa Scaffidi's 18-month disqualification over her failure to properly disclose gifts and travel.

Speaking to the press, the Acting Lord Mayor pointed out that he is not taking additional remuneration for his new role, saying that his concern is "delivering".

"If I'm re-elected on October 21 then I will be pushing for free parking in selected high streets," said James Limnios, describing the measure as necessary to attract people visiting the area, and its key retail and entertainment facilities.

"We've got to look after families, residents and ratepayers, small business owners and encourage people into the CBD."
