A full house gathered at the Melbourne Town Hall on Wednesday night for the second major runway show for Melbourne Spring Fashion Week 2010 Designer Series.

The crowd was eager in anticipation of seeing some of the nation’s best designers send their latest collections down the catwalk and they were not disappointed.

The show featured some of Melbourne’s biggest names including Aurelio Costarella, who opened the show with a spectacular dress featuring endless layers of grey and beige silk.

This was followed by the ephemeral work of Gwendolynne, which featured plenty of her trademark embellishment and beading.

Also showing on the night were Akira, Christine, Collette Dinnigan, Lisa Ho, Megan Park, Thurley and Yeojin Bae.

MSFW favourite and Melbourne-based designer, Arthur Galan was a highlight.

His collection of men’s and womenswear that was a clever mix of resort and preppy looks.

Men’s suiting was simple but set off by smart detailing and is sure to snapped on several local celebrities during this year’s spring racing carnival.

Highlights of his women’s collection included figure-skimming dresses with exciting prints and some seriously fierce leather skirts and shorts – sure to get everyone’s attention.

The night featured an eclectic mix of whimsical retro-inspired pieces and upscale resort looks.

Floral prints and embellishments featured heavily in nearly every collection, as did muted tones of nude, peach and champagne. Skirts and dresses were full and floaty and there was a big emphasis on femininity.

Blazers are still big news for the ladies and were teamed with everything from floor-length gowns to shorts. Overall summer looks set to be full of fun and colour.
