A stand-out debut season for Melbourne City has led to midfielder Aaron Mooy being elevated to the club’s marquee position for the A-League season.

The 24-year-old has signed a three-year contract extension with John van `t Schip’s side.

Mooy scored a club-high seven goals and had eight assists in 27 matches last season for City.

The only two A-League games Mooy missed were when he was on Socceroos duty.

“I’m really excited to re-sign with City,” said Mooy.

“I feel right at home at the club and it’s a really exciting time to be here.”

Van `t Schip said Mooy had quickly become a role model for City’s younger players.

“We certainly see Aaron as being vital to our plans for the forthcoming season and beyond so we are very excited to have Aaron re-sign with the club,” he said.
