As part of this year’s Festival Hellenika program, Dr Pam Papadelos will present an insightful lecture on ‘Negotiating a Hyphenated Identity’.

With post-Second World War migration from Greece to Australia actively encouraged between 1952 and 1970, by the early 1980s there were over 250,000 Greeks living Down Under.

While first generation Greek migrants have managed to sustain an identity that promotes difference within a host nation while maintaining a connection to their homeland, it’s a different story for subsequent generations.

Set to take place at The University of Adelaide today, Dr Papadelos will explore the way second generation Greek Australians negotiate a hyphenated identity, what aspects of their ‘Greekness’ they maintain, and what they will pass on to the next generation.

The lecture will take place on Wednesday 18 May in Room G04, Napier Building, The University of Adelaide, SA at 7pm. Admission is free. For more information, visit www.festivalhellenika.org.au, http://facebook.com/festivalhellenika or https://twitter.com/Fest_Hellenika
