Northcote City will swap its familiar blue strip for a pink strip this Saturday afternoon when it hosts Hume City in a round 11 NPL 1 league match. In addition, Northcote’s U20s and junior NPL teams, as well as the U16 and senior girls teams, will don pink socks for their matches this weekend.

It’s all for a worthy cause, as the club joins other sporting groups nationwide in support of Breast Cancer Network Australia (BCNA)’s annual Pink Sports Day aimed at raising funds and awareness for Australians suffering from breast cancer.

John Cain Reserve will open its gates free of charge to women attending Saturday’s seniors and U20s games, while entrants to all other matches at Oulten Reserve on Sunday will be asked for a gold coin donation.

All funds raised will go to BCNA in its nationwide bid to raise $500,000 for those affected by breast cancer.

Northcote City FC secretary Peter Papatheodorou is urging the local community to support the club’s participation in Pink Sports Day. In a media release he said: “Pink Sports Day is a great opportunity for the whole community to head down to Oulten Reserve, Preston on Mother’s Day and support not only the teams competing on the day but also those in the local community who have been affected by breast cancer. We hope everyone will come together, pink up and get behind the teams as they play for a great cause.”

On the park, City has welcomed new signing Marcus Duncan, a 19-year-old central defender, signed from Central Coast Mariners Youth team. Duncan made his debut in last week’s first win for the season, against Richmond. He joins other recent signings, midfielder Keenan Gibson and forward Braedyn Crowley.
