A female arm of AHEPA, Daughters of Penelope Chapter Athena No 2, held a luncheon to raise awareness and much-needed funds for the Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation.

Two inspirational guest speakers took to the stage at Merrimu Receptions in Murrumbeena, to share their experiences with ovarian cancer.

One of the speakers, Vali Creus, battled ovarian cancer and was told that she may never experience motherhood. However, thanks to medical advancements, she gave birth to two healthy twin girls after she was successfully transplanted with her ovarian tissue.

Helen Hatzis, OCRF Ambassador and author, was the second speaker on the day and shared her courageous story after facing five incidents of ovarian cancer in seven years.

Organisers of the fundraiser were pleased with the turn out, the space brimming with women of all ages, including Greek Australian journalist and former TV presenter Helen Kapalos, who also showed her support by addressing those gathered.

A world-wide philanthropic association, Daughters of Penelope are one of three AHEPA female chapters in Victoria and have extended their support to a number of charities throughout the years.

All proceeds collected through the luncheon were donated directly to the Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation.
