Alek Skarlatos has come under attack after an image of the young American soldier appeared on Instagram, in which he was wearing a shirt in support of Donald Trump.

The Greek American is one of the three heroic soldiers that managed to stop a terrorist attack from taking place on a Paris train in August 2015.

The shirt bore the Republican Presidential candidate’s famous slogan of ‘Trump: Make America Great Again’.

Among the insults hurled at Skarlatos were words such as “racist” and “uneducated”, with one commenter going as far as declaring the soldier a “small-minded bigot”.

Townhall’s Deputy News Editor, Cortney O’Brien came to the young soldiers defence however, writing “how quickly we forget Skarlatos’ sacrifice”.

“Some commenters applauded the nasty remark, but others stood up for Skarlatos’ right to free speech – considering, you know, he is one of a few Americans who actually fought for it,” she added.
