Nobody does festival season quite like the Greeks, and a parade over the weekend in Athens proved just that.

Marking the end of the winter festival season was a parade in honour of the ancient Greek god Dionysus. Given he was the god of wine and fertility, and in the spirit of fun, the parade was aptly phallic-themed.

Starting near Monastiraki train station and making its way up to the Hill of the Muses, hundreds turned out for the raucous annual event, with festival-goers parading through the centre of the Greek capital wearing masks, chanting and carrying large phallic-shaped objects.

There was plenty of wine flowing, along with dancing and theatrical plays reenacted throughout the night.
