NSW police have issued former Olympic shooting champion Michael Diamond, with an interim apprehended violence order (AVO) to protect his wife.

Diamond was issued with the interim AVO just two-and-a-half months after being found guilty of firearm and drink driving offences arising from an altercation with a relative last year. The charges which followed carried with them a mandatory 10-year suspension of his firearms licence which cost Diamond a chance to compete in his seventh Olympics in Rio 2016.

A winner of two Olympic gold medals in trap shooting, and four Commonwealth gold medals, Diamond received a good behaviour bond in May this year after being found guilty of the charges. Under the AVO issued last Monday, Diamond has been ordered not to assault, threaten, stalk, harass or intimidate his wife and not to approach his wife within 12 hours of consuming alcohol or illicit drugs.
