We have a leader in Mr. Ivanov who is stirring up trouble in the most dangerous way.

The Australian Macedonian Human Rights Committee (AMHRC) has disputed the existence of a judgment by the Australian Human Rights Commission (AHRC) clearing South Australian Premier Mike Rann of racially vilifying the people of the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM).
When approached by Neos Kosmos to comment on the recent judgment by Justice Catherine Branson QC, AMHRC Chairman George Vlahov denied that any judgment had been reached. “In view of the fact that no such decision has been made, there is nothing for us to comment on,” he said.
Mr. Vlahov had lodged the complaint accusing the Premier of racial hatred as a result of comments Mr. Rann made in a speech at the Dimitria Festival in Adelaide’s western suburbs late last year.
In the speech Mr. Rann pledged his ongoing commitment to the Greek campaign to prevent FYROM from using the name ‘Macedonia’ because, “no one is entitled to steal another nation’s history or culture”.
“We have a leader in Mr. Ivanov who is stirring up trouble in the most dangerous way,” Mr. Rann said of FYROM President Gjorge Ivanov.
Last week Mr. Rann told the South Australian parliament that he had been cleared by the AHRC on the grounds that the complaint was, “lacking in substance”.
“I stand on my record of racial and ethnic tolerance … I will not be intimidated by anyone from speaking forthrightly on behalf of historical truth,” said Mr. Rann, pointing out that he is a recipient of both the Philip of Macedon Award and the Alexander the Great Award for his interest in the area.
He said his criticisms were directed at Mr. Ivanov’s policies, not the people of FYROM.
“I strongly refute any allegation that in my speech … I said anything that could offend, insult, humiliate or intimidate any person or persons on the basis of their race, national or ethnic origin,” Mr. Rann said.
This week Lachlan Parker, spokesman for Premier Mike Rann confirmed to Neos Kosmos that the complaint had been dismissed.
