Australian Red Bull driver Daniel Ricciardo produced a fourth podium finish for the season after he finished in third place at last weekend’s British Grand Prix at Silverstone.

Ricciardo, who took over from former F1 driver and Australian Mark Webber, sits in third place overall in the 2014 standings, behind Mercedes pair German Nico Rosberg and Briton Lewis Hamilton.

The Australian described his third placing at Silverstone as the “best third place” he had ever experienced.

“I’m not normally ecstatic with a third, but I am today,” he said.

“It was good fun for the last 37 laps. I was only nervous for the last two laps when Jenson (Button) came charging.

“With three laps to go my tyres started going. I thought if he got DRS (drag reduction system) he would be vulnerable.

“We pitted quite early on the prime as we were quite slow. The pace seemed OK and we looked at our options.

“I said we could give it a go and go till the end. It does not always work out like that so we can all celebrate.”

Ricciardo finished 16 seconds behind second placed Valtteri Bottas, while Lewis Hamilton took the chequered flag on home soil.

The race will now head to Hockenheim for the German Grand Prix on the July 18 – 20.
