The national liberation struggle of EOKA (Greek Organisation of Cypriot Fighters), a struggle against British colonial rule that took place in Cyprus between 1955-1959 and led to the creation of the Cypriot state in 1960, is to be commemorated in Melbourne by the Justice for Cyprus Committee S.E.K.A..
The first event, taking place tomorrow, will be a Memorial Service for the fallen heroes at the Church of St Andrew in Forest Hill, followed by a wreath laying ceremony at the Memorial in the church courtyard.
Next Sunday April 6, a Memorial Service will be held at the Church of St Andrews in Sunshine, followed by a wreath laying ceremony at the Memorial in the churchyard and a brief artistic celebration, with the participation of the students of the Greek School of the Greek Cypriot Community of St Andrew Sunshine, as well as the artistic group of the Community.
On the same day, at 3.00 pm, there will be an artistic event at the Cyprus Community of Melbourne and Victoria, 495 Lygon Street, Brunswick, with the participation of the youth of the Cyprus Community of Melbourne and Victoria and of the Community of Saint Andrews in Sunshine.
