Young multicultural women from the age of 16 to 24 will be able to participate in a special leadership program that uses sport and recreation to teach valuable life skills.

The program provides comprehensive training for women who would like to become more involved in local sporting clubs or community organisations which focus on sport and physical activity.

It will be a chance for girls from different backgrounds to network and find friends with similar sport interests to get them participating in the local clubs.

Women from multicultural communities are under-represented in sporting codes around Australia, and the program hopes to give women the chance to overcome initial barriers stopping them from entering a club or sport.

The program has been structured over four days during the September school holidays, with a combination of theoretical learning and fun, social activities.

There will also be a tour of the NSW Institute of Sport, where the participants will be able to see the wide array of sports available to them.

The program is free and will be held at two locations; the first two days will be held at Sports House, Sydney Olympic Park and last two days at The Hub, Mt Druitt.

Those interested need to complete the Expression of Interest form and return to: Sport and Recreation, Locked Bag 1422 Silverwater NSW 2128 or fax (02) 9006 3883.

The program will start at 9.30 am and conclude 2.30 pm every day from Monday 22 September until Thursday 25 September.
