South Melbourne has hit the ground running in the NPL season, and will be looking for their fourth win in a row against Hume City on Saturday.

Hume City get the home advantage this week, as they unveil their brand new digs at Broadmeadows Valley Park, but judging from last week’s performance, a win isn’t on the cards.

They lost 1-0 to Dandenong Thunder, while their opponents this week South Melbourne managed a goal filled 5-3 win over Green Gully.

In another thrashing last week, Heidelberg United left the field baffled and amazed when they managed a 6-2 win against the Goulburn Valley Suns, breaking their winless drought.

Coach George Katsakis finally got the points he was looking for since the start of the season and will be hoping to capitalise on the team’s tight defence and goal scoring ability to see the winning trend continue.

They take on high-flying Ballarat, who have come off two successive wins, including a surprise 3-1 win over reigning VPL Champion Northcote City last week.

The former premiers are having an abysmal start to the season and will play Pascoe Vale tonight.

Bentleigh Greens take on Werribee City Saturday, a team that has slowly become a force to be reckoned with in the new league, showing the veterans a thing or two.

In the past three weeks City has knocked Oakleigh out of the Dockerty Cup and defeated Hume City and Melbourne Knights, with two of those being comeback wins.
