The Spartans were able to manufacture another win in heavy conditions by playing good hard football with some great team goals in a more workmanlike, hard fought win.
For the very first time this year the Spartans were challenged in the third quarter, having seven unanswered goals kicked against the one and Therry Penola just two points in arrears at the start of the last quarter presented a real challenge.
In a close encounter all throughout the last quarter, the Hawthorn team displayed strong resolve to grind out a 16 point win.
