The Hawthorn Spartans Aussie Rules club started their 2014 training regimen this week, ready to maintain their premiership title.

With some of the playing group retiring, the Spartans have recruited well and are always scouting for additional players who have a solid football background.

The Spartans will play in the top division of the VAFA Club 18 Section next year and talented recruits will add depth to an already undefeated playing squad.

All players will be put through their paces with education, leadership, game style, set plays, zone coaching and KPIs. The Spartan coaches provide the players with a thorough development program, which has played a huge role in the improvement of a number of players.

Because of cricket sharing the footy ovals around most of Victoria at this time of the year, it is very difficult for the Hawthorn Spartans to secure a training ground in the off season, when the Alphington Grammar School came to the rescue of the team by allowing them to train on the school’s sports grounds.

The Spartan administration acknowledged the assistance of Dr Vivianne Nikou, principal at Alphington Grammar School, and business manager Manuel Pappos for their generosity in providing a training venue at Alphington Grammar for the remainder of this year and 2014.
