Sunshine Heights cricket club will be celebrating its 60th anniversary by hosting an exclusive event.

Former Geelong captain and threetime premiership player Cameron Ling will be speaking at the event, while the club will host a panel discussion with past and present members.

The free event aims to celebrate and remember all the club’s milestones since its inception in 1954.

Predominately an Anglo-Saxon club, the demographic started to shift when a significant number of players started coming from Greek, Italian, Maltese and Polish backgrounds in the 1960s and ’70s. As Australia began changing again, the club welcomed players from India, South Sudan, Vietnam, Sri Lanka and Pakistan.

More recently, under president Nick Hatzoglou the club shifted its values, making the club more inclusive, family-oriented and community-oriented.

Now the club has more than 300 members, with eight senior teams, six junior teams, and more than 50 volunteers.

The event will be held on Wednesday 25 February at 6.30 pm at Marian College Auditorium, 196 Glengala Road, Sunshine West.

Tickets are free, but RSVPs via email (sunshineheights@club.cricketvictoria.com.au) or phone (Steve Dimitriadis 0403 551 947) are essential.
