The Lobster, directed by Yorgos Lanthimos, which premiered at the 68th Cannes Film Festival on May 15, won the Prix du Jury award during this year’s closing ceremony on May 24.

French film Dheepan won the top Palme d’Or prize for director Jacques Audiard at the 68th edition of the festival, while the Grand Prix award belongs to the aspiring Hungarian director Laszlo Nemes for his drama Son of Saul, set in Auschwitz.

France’s Vincent Lindon won best actor for French director Stéphane Brizé’s film La Loi du Marché (The Measure of a Man).

Starring Colin Farrell and Rachel Weisz, The Lobster was co-funded by Irish production company Element Pictures and shot in Ireland.

Set in the future, the dystopian film is considered a daring metaphorical take on the need for single people to find a partners. The Lobster is slated for release on October 16.
